Our Work

The Trust’s Democracy and Civil Society Programme was launched in 2006. The purpose of the programme is to strengthen democracy and civil society in the UK and Ireland.

It seeks to contribute towards this through: undertaking, commissioning and publishing research; generating public debate; and engaging with practice from a grassroots to a global level.

It is envisaged that the Democracy and Civil Society Programme will run for ten years, with a mid-term review. During the period 2006-2008, the Democracy and Civil Society Programme will focus on:

Empowering the voice and engagement of citizens is a major feature of all our programmes and the Democracy and Civil Society programme builds upon the work we have supported over the past decade.
