Lenka Setkova, Director, Democracy and Civil Society Programme
Lenka joined the Carnegie UK Trust in 2006 as Director of the Democracy and Civil Society Programme. Lenka is currently leading on the Inquiry into the Future of Civil Society. For the first seven years of her career, Lenka worked with the Department for International Development/Foreign and Commonwealth Office and with the C.S. Mott Foundation in Central and Eastern Europe. The focus of this work was on strengthening democracy and civil society in post-communist societies. Since moving back to the UK in 2002, Lenka has worked with the Tudor Trust and with New Philanthropy Capital.
Lenka is a trustee of Allavida (an international development agency). She has an MSc in Development Management and an MBA.
Raji Hunjan, Director, Democracy Programme
Raji is now on maternity leave until Autumn 2008.
Raji Hunjan joined the Carnegie UK Trust in September 2003 as Director of the Carnegie UK Trust’s programme focusing on young people’s involvement in schools and democracy. She is now leading on the Democracy Strand of the Democracy and Civil Society programme. Before joining the Trust, Raji worked as the Director of the Hansard Society’s Citizenship Education Programme, prior to which she was a secondary school teacher in London. Raji is also a Trustee of the Citizenship Foundation.
Erin Van der Maas, Research Analyst
Erin joined Carnegie in January 2007 as Research Analyst to support the Civil Society Inquiry. Erin’s research experience has been primarily in the industrial relations area with a focus on trade unionism. His doctoral research, at the Dept. Industrial Relations, London School of Economics, explored the Europeanization of British Trade Unions. In addition, Erin has taught and lectured in industrial relations at the University of Cambridge, LSE and Greenwich University.
Erin has been an active volunteer for London Citizens. He was Secretary and co-author on the South London Citizens Enquiry into Service Provision by the Immigration and Nationality Directorate at Lunar House, A humane service for global citizens. Erin also sits on the London Citizens Steering Group for the Living Wage Campaign.
Soumountha Keophilavong, Research Analyst
Soumountha joined the Trust in December 2007 to focus on the Democracy work of the Democracy and Civil Society Programme. Soumountha has worked for many years in the voluntary sector. With the Field Lane Foundation, she focused on issues around housing, social care, individual and community capacity building. Her research experience includes service development, academic and policy-oriented research. Her MSc in Development Studies research, recently completed at Birkbeck College ( University of London ), explored how civil society participation can contribute to challenge urban violence from a power and gender perspective. Soumountha also holds a MA in Business ( Heriot Watt University ) and a MA in Business and Marketing (Strasbourg Graduate Business School, France).
Morven Masterton, Programme Co-ordinator
Before joining the Carnegie UK Trust in February 2006 Morven worked as a Project Assistant at a national disabilities charity and interned with the Green Party. She completed a postgraduate degree at the London School of Economics in 2005, focusing on European Politics and Governance. She has lived abroad for an extended period, working in France, Italy, Sweden and Spain.
Catherine Moloney, Office Co-ordinator
Catherine joined Carnegie in March 2008 as the Office Co-ordinator. Prior to this, she worked as an Executive Assistant at a government funded initiative providing information and resources for community and voluntary organisations seeking funding and financial management.
She was the Senior Administrator at The Butler Trust, a charity which runs an annual award scheme recognising the dedicated work undertaken by prison and probation staff with the rehabilitation of offenders.
