2007/08 Work Programme

The Initiative for Learning Democracy in Europe has commissioned the Citizenship Foundation to lead on two projects to be completed by September 2008.

Project One - European Handbook on Democratic School Development

This handbook focuses on the work of foundations and their partners across Europe and the strategies and methods used to develop schools as democratic spaces.  The handbook will highlight practical ways in which schools can embed democracy and participation across the whole school curriculum.

The Citizenship Foundation will be working with the German Association for Democracy Education (DeGeBe) and the Regional Centre for Education, Integration and Democracy.

Project Two - European Citizenship Resource Kit

This resource kit will be designed for teachers to actively engage young people in the value and significance of European citizenship.

The resource kit will target teachers and 14-19 year-old students who are working in both general secondary and vocational settings, with a special focus on the latter. The geographical targets are EU Member States and countries in Europe aspiring to become EU members. This resource is an opportunity for ILDE to provide the tools for teachers and young people to engage directly with the concept of European Citizenship, understand that Europe is a matter that concerns them and one that affects their daily lives and which they can and should explore for themselves.

The Citizenship Foundation will work with the Centre for Applied Policy (CAP) and the Fondazione Per la Scuola
