Commission of Inquiry into the Future of Civil Society in the UK and Ireland

Event: Creating a climate for a just society BOOK NOW

Posted on 04/07/2009

The Carnegie UK Trust Inquiry into the Future of Civil Society is holding an event next month to explore the role of civil society in enhancing social justice in both the UK and globally, Creating a climate for a just society.

Despite considerable economic growth over the past 30 years, huge disparities in income and wealth, social mobility, health and education not only persist, but have widened. This interactive event will focus on the roles of civil society associations in enabling social justice, the barriers to realising a wider social justice framework and how such barriers might be overcome.

The event will include a discussion of the findings of a new report commissioned by the Inquiry, Civil society associations and the values of social justice, by Professor Gary Craig. Speakers at this event also include Kumi Naidoo (Visiting Fellow at the Carnegie UK Trust, Honorary President of CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation and Co-Chair of the Global Call to Action against Poverty campaign) and Maria Adebowale (Director of Capacity Global).

The event will be held in London on 5 May 2009.
