Civil society Inquiry launches survey on DISSENT
The Carnegie UK Trust Inquiry into the Future of Civil Society in the UK and Ireland has launched a survey on the theme of the Marginalisation of Dissent in order to gain further insight into how dissent is perceived both in the UK and Ireland, and globally.
In 2007 the Inquiry undertook an extensive futures exercise to explore the possible future threats to and opportunities for civil society, looking out to 2025. Contributors to the futures work highlighted the marginalisation of dissent as a key concern for the future of civil soicety.
The purpose of this survey is to explore the following:
- The degree to which people believe dissent is marginalised or suppressed.
- The ways in which dissent is enabled/inhibited – especially in relation to the work of civil society associations.
- What practically needs to be done and by whom to enable dissent.
This survey will inform the work of the Inquiry into the Future of Civil Society which will report back in Autumn 2009. If you would like to learn more about this project and the work of the Inquiry as a whole, please contact Morven.
